BCCCG Launches Emergency Planning Guidelines for BCs

 3 September 2025

On 13 August BCCG launched a set of guidelines to help bodies corporate prepare for emergency situations they may find themselves facing.

Emergencies will come at us in various ways and when we least expect them, they can either be internal to our body corporate communities or extend wider affecting whole neighborhoods.  Emergencies may be personal, within your home or office, be confined to only a few units in your building or affect only your building, or they may result from something much larger that impacts the entire district.

Whatever the cause and whatever the extent, the BCCG Guidelines outline the things we can do to prepare for the worst.  The Guidelines document has a twofold purpose:

  • First, to identify the most obvious emergency that might occur and jeopardize the health and safety of you and your neighbours; and
  • Second, to provide guidance to your BC committee on how to proactively plan to address those circumstances.

In the words of Tim Jones the principal author of the BCCG Guidelines, “Every Body Corporate is different. Each Body Corporate must establish the list of emergencies specific to its building and its residents and tailor its Emergency Management Plan (EMP) according to the guiding principles and best practices for each circumstance set out in the BCCG Guidelines.”.

BCCG members may download a copy of the Guidelines from the Community and Resilience page of the BCCG website.
