Section 88 UTA - Remote BC Meetings Extension

19 September 2021

The Epidemic Preparedness (Covid-19) Notice 2020 has been extended for a further 3 months effective today and will expire on 19 December 2021.

This means the ability to run remote meetings under section 88(3) of the Unit Titles Act 2010 continues through to 13 March 2022.

The latest gazette notice confirming the Epidemic Preparedness Notice renewal can be found here. Note that this needs to be read together with section 88(5) of the Unit Titles Act 2010 (which defines the temporary nature of section 88(3)).

This further extension is to be expected given the global pandemic is still at large.

The BCCG and others made submissions recently to the Select Committee urging them to keep the current remote meeting section permanently in the proposed Unit Titles Bill. We'll know more on that when the Select Committee reports back to Parliament. The September reporting date has now been pushed out to 22 November.

In the meantime, you can continue to safely allow remote meeting attendance up to 13 March 2022.
